Round Robin vs. Ladder Mixer

Same app, two very different tournaments. Here's which one fits your group.

1

Round Robin

Every player or team plays every other one, or as many rounds as you set if the full round robin would take too long. It's the fairest format there is, since everyone faces roughly the same competition, and the standings at the end actually mean something.

Best for: leagues, club nights, anything where people care about the final ranking. Most pickleball tournaments default to this for a reason.

2

Ladder Mixer

Matchups shuffle each round based on how the previous round went, so you end up playing different people as the tournament moves along, instead of a fixed schedule decided up front. Less about crowning a precise #1, more about mixing people up and keeping games competitive.

Best for: casual social sessions, open play nights, mixed-skill groups where variety matters more than a strict ranking.

3

Which format is better for doubles?

Either works, since both formats support Team Mode and just rank pairs instead of individuals. The same logic from above still applies: Round Robin if fixed partners want a real ranking to chase, Ladder Mixer if you'd rather shuffle partners each round and keep it loose. Ladder Mixer's partner-shuffling is a bit more common for doubles specifically, since it's an easy way to rotate people through different partners without anyone having to ask.

4

Quick way to decide

If someone's going to ask "wait, who actually won?" and expect a real answer, go Round Robin. If the goal is just getting people playing with new faces for a couple hours, go Ladder Mixer. Both support individual or team mode, and both handle odd player counts with automatic byes.
